ATTN: Asian American writers in NY

Open City is hiring.

Open City is a new online magazine on Asian American news and culture in New York. We’re looking for Creative Nonfiction Fellows to write and produce stories on the vibrant immigrant communities of Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens. In a time when Occupy Wall Street is shedding a harsh light on economic inequality, Open City offers a unique platform for writers to tell the stories of low-income Americans too often ignored or misrepresented. If you’re an emerging creative nonfiction writer looking for financial support, a work space and career mentorship, apply to become a Creative Nonfiction Fellow. You’ll help us document the rapidly growing, transforming and challenging experience of what it means to be Asian American in urban New York today. Applications are due on February 17, 2012.

Armed With a Camera 2011-2012

Attention, young and emerging filmmakers of Asian Pacific descent! Visual Communications is taking applications for their Armed With a Camera Fellowship through August 5th!

As an AWC alumna (2004-2005), I can totally vouch for this program. I had a great time connecting with peeps, especially the peeps at VC. Also, the short film I made through the program is something I’m still very proud of! It was my ticket into several film festivals :] If you’re looking for a creative workspace with the opportunity to learn new things and meet new people, this is a great way.

Music needed for indie documentary

Hello Musicians & Composers,

I’m looking for music! For an indie documentary about Christianity in Asia. I’d say stylistically it’s kinda like Michael Moore meets Planet B-Boy.

We’re looking for all types of music, so no, the music does not need to be of the Christian genre. Open to hip hop, rock, electronic, instrumentals, etc. We are looking for both produced tracks as well as samples of composed music.

Unfortunately, we don’t have a budget for this, so this is definitely for people who’d like to collaborate with some good peeps, contribute their music to a passion project that has the intention of reaching the masses, and of course a film credit for your resume.

Please submit any links to music or inquiries about the project to: grace@peachies.net

We are on a pretty tight post-production schedule, so please do get in touch with me ASAP if you’re interested. Thanks!
