I just need that sweet ending or I’m totally not satisfied. It might be because I haven’t found HK food to be all that spectacular (no offense, HK peeps!). I think coming from Taiwan where every single meal was sooo good… then coming to HK, I was quite disappointed with the food (don’t get me wrong, there have been a few exceptions, i.e. dim sum, specialties like pigeon, and some Western and non-Chinese cuisine). Anyway, I’ve found that I get more satisfaction from dessert than the actual meal. And most times… I look at the dessert menu first now. Haha. It’s weird, cuz’ I was never really a dessert person until HK!

Tonight, I had Lebanese food for the very first time! My dear friend, Jeannie Mai, who is quite the health-conscious foodie (you can find her reviews on Yelp), took me to RoRo’s Chicken and ordered me a buncha things to try…

A lil’ bit of Shawerma, Chicken Shawerma, Kafta kabab over rice with salad and Baba Ghanouj. Btw, I forgot to take a photo before eating… so this is midway through devouring the goodness.

“What’s this Baba Ghanouj stuff? Hmm… Ooo, yes, it is GOOOD.”

So what’d I think of RoRo’s Chicken? Delicious. I totally loved the Shawerma (great with their garlic butter!) and the Baba Ghanouj was yummy, too. Super filling.

Ahhh, what better way to wind down after an amazing dinner? Good company, sweets, and wine! P.S. – That bottle of wine was given to Jeannie as a gift from Mario Lopez. Just had to mention that. Haha.

With every New Year comes NEW ideas! I’d like to introduce Ramenbox.com to y’all. “The world’s first customizable box of ramen.” I have a feeling this is going to be quite popular with college students and well, people like me who don’t always have the time to cook or don’t know how to cook. Haha.

You can pick from over 50 choices of premium instant noodles and have it all packed and shipped to you in one box!

My dear friend, Becky Wu, and her friend, Howard, came up with this awesome idea. The site launched on New Year’s Day and I had to order myself a box! I am very pleased to say that the shipment came via FedEx within 5 days and was definitely packed with care (and love!).

I should be angry that they spilled coffee on my packing slip.

But it’s ok… Becky hooked it up with some extras!

My general thoughts of Ramenbox.com: The site is really easy to use! The price ain’t bad for what you get. The shipment came within 5 days and was packed nicely. And well, what else is there to say? Besides that I think it’s a great idea!

Here’s what they have to say about themselves: Because of its unique idea, a lot of people ask us how Ramenbox.com® came to be. We can only say it was born from hunger. Hungry for the world to finally discover they had more options than just plain old Top Ramen® and Cup O’Noodles®, and hungry for….well, for amazing instant ramen. We thought, instead of driving to three different supermarkets to grab all of our favorite instant noodles (you know you have your favorites too), we thought wouldn’t it be great if one place had them all? So we let the idea stew in our heads for oh, 3 minutes and presto, Ramenbox.com® was cooked and ready. The worlds first, customizable Ramenbox.

Ramenbox.com

P.S. – I will be sure to submit my review of each package of noodles I try! I ordered a variety of them! So far I know the Green Tea Chlorella one is good (even though it might not sound good~ haha)!

translation: food coma (slang according to my Taiwanese friend)

Speaking of food and Taiwanese… I can’t wait to be back in Taiwan/Asia! Leaving in just a few weeks! I’ll definitely be getting major 飯氣攻心 while I’m over there! For those who know what’s up and if you haven’t already, you should join my friend’s Facebook Group: 台灣 Food is THE BEST. That’s right, Taiwan food is the BEST! Mmm… even the non-Taiwanese food is good there :] It’s a foodie’s paradise!

Pic from last Taiwan trip… the BEST beef noodles in the world from 廖家牛肉麵 (liao jia niu rou mian). I am looking forward to having THIS again. Which btw, this is not what it looks like at the restaurant… my aunt brought it home and served it in small bowls (just in case you’re thinking the portion is small).

Nice. This food blog, Serious Eats blogged about the soy sauce commercial I’m in. Thanks to them, I now know the translation of the Chinese in the commercial! Haha. Pretty ridiculous (but at the same time, you prob get the picture without needing the following):

Stew juice, onion rings, love story.
Our story started with Kim Ve Wei-Wong soy sauce.
When we first met, he was shy.
My mom said, to cook for guest, we need to use real fermented soy sauce.
Because it does not contain preservatives.
My favorite at the time was onion rings dipped in the stew juice.
From that day on, he loved the good flavor from Kim Ve Wei-Wong.
Our love story walks along the road of, “Stew juice, onion rings, Kim Ve Wei-Wong soy sauce.

The ending shot: “Fall in love at first sight choice, unforgettable good flavor, fermented Kim Ve Wei-Wong soy sauce.”

Speaking of food… I’m on Day #9 out of 21 of this fast I’m doing with some friends. We’re doing a modified Daniel fast (pretty much a vegan diet of fruits, veggies, nuts, wheat, water, and no caffeine or alcohol). It hasn’t been too bad. I’m feeling pretty healthy! And I must say, I love Trader Joe’s even more! The only times when it’s a bit hard is when I go out with people and they’re drinking beers and eating delicious looking foods with meat or cheese. Haha. The sad thing is that fasting from Facebook is A LOT harder for me than fasting from food. Sigh. But, I’ve been fasting from FB as well and so far so good…

Overall, I’m feeling pretty good and a lot more productive. Things are pretty awesome, cuz’ shoot, God is good!

Yup, that was from last night. Round 2 for me. I finally got to try their Korean Short Ribs taco! The tofu one was pretty good, too, and I only got a bite out of a pork one… so I’m gonna have to make me a Round 3 sometime soon…

After a failed attempt at trying KOGI tacos last week, I went to the Miracle Mile location once again tonight with a group of friends and lo and behold, my Kogi taco cherry was popped! Well, not totally… since they did run out of their signature Korean Short Ribs taco by the time we got to the front of the line… BUT! I must say, their Spicy BBQ Chicken taco was quite delicious! I really liked all the toppings it came with and I didn’t think it was necessary to add any extra sauces or toppings.

So a few weeks ago, I started hearing about this “Korean taco truck” from various friends… and I had NO IDEA what people were talking about. It just sounded like a really interesting concept: Korean BBQ + tacos… why the heck not? Even more interesting was the fact that this truck’s location was always changing and you had to be in the know to know where it’d be. Lucky for me, I’m an Internet detective (it’s really not that hard to find) and I found their website and decided to check it out in my neck of the woods. Unfortunately for me, the first time I tried to get my hands on some, there were news crews and the friends I was with didn’t really want to wait in line. But alas, I have had a taste!

For those who are not in the know, I present to you: KOGIBBQ.COM!

Yes, you may have to wait 1.5 hours or more… but seriously, just go with some friends and you’ll have fun! I waited 1.5 hours for ONE taco (cuz’ I had already eaten dinner), but it was worth it! Tomorrow night, I’m going to try getting my hands on the Short Ribs and Tofu!

Tonight, my friend John took my gfs and I to a sushi joint over in Palms claiming it to be the best sushi in the U.S. Apparently all the fish is imported from Tokyo and other parts of the world. And well, I must say… it was pretty freakin’ delicious.

I’m very picky and I don’t eat a lot of things. This restaurant is cool cuz’ you don’t actually order from a menu. What they do is they go around and ask what you DON’T eat. Mine kinda went something like this:

Me: I don’t eat any shellfish…
SZ: Oh, so no oyster? Clam?
Me: No.
SZ: Octopus? Squid?
Me: No… and no sea urchin…
SZ: Scallop?
Me: No.
SZ: Salmon egg?
Me: No…
SZ: Is mackerel ok?
Me: Uh… (while looking at Arden… Arden nods and says I’ll like it)… OK…
SZ: Ok, so just swimming fish then?
Me: Haha, yah.
SZ: Sea eel?
Me: That’s ok, too.

(probably would’ve been easier to just say what I would eat)

Anyway, after they took our “un-orders,” we ordered some hot tea and sake to share. Then the waitress started bringing out single serving dishes one fish at a time.

Wow, fish is GOOD there. And if you like albacore… you will LOVE this place (I love albacore). This is the type of place that does NOT give you wasabi and they discourage you from using soy sauce (or they’ll tell you if you should use it for certain dishes). John pretty much said they’ve got a sushi nazi there, so if they even see you using soy sauce on something you’re not supposed to… they’ll kick you out (not sure if he was exaggerating). Sake and ginger in between the different dishes was great, too.

All the fish I had was of high quality… extremely tender and not fishy. I gotta say though, I think I’ve had better toro… but everything was consistently good. Albacore=YUM, salmon=YUM, a buncha other fish I don’t know what they were=YUM, eel=YUM, butterfish was just ok (I personally think the butterfish at SAKETINI is the best!). And for all you peeps who eat all the stuff I don’t eat, I heard the scallop is really good there.

Man. I feel like there should be pictures with this blog. Boo… I really need a camera…

P.S. – Another great sushi joint (which might be more affordable) is Echigo… I’ll have to go back there and compare sometime…
