ATTN: Asian American writers in NY

Open City is hiring.

Open City is a new online magazine on Asian American news and culture in New York. We’re looking for Creative Nonfiction Fellows to write and produce stories on the vibrant immigrant communities of Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens. In a time when Occupy Wall Street is shedding a harsh light on economic inequality, Open City offers a unique platform for writers to tell the stories of low-income Americans too often ignored or misrepresented. If you’re an emerging creative nonfiction writer looking for financial support, a work space and career mentorship, apply to become a Creative Nonfiction Fellow. You’ll help us document the rapidly growing, transforming and challenging experience of what it means to be Asian American in urban New York today. Applications are due on February 17, 2012.

Armed With a Camera 2011-2012

Attention, young and emerging filmmakers of Asian Pacific descent! Visual Communications is taking applications for their Armed With a Camera Fellowship through August 5th!

As an AWC alumna (2004-2005), I can totally vouch for this program. I had a great time connecting with peeps, especially the peeps at VC. Also, the short film I made through the program is something I’m still very proud of! It was my ticket into several film festivals :] If you’re looking for a creative workspace with the opportunity to learn new things and meet new people, this is a great way.

RAWartists.org is looking for a videographer

Hey guys, my friend over at RAWartists.org is looking for a videographer. There is pay, but within a small budget, so this is probably more for a student or someone looking for something entry-level.

The RAW videographer arrives at the event, shoots footage of the event in its entirety and interviews each RAW artist. They are given guidelines and interview questions to capture the full spectrum of each artist’s work in the past, present and future. The videographer is expected to produce 1-2 minute videos per artist with footage that captures their craft and their interview. There would be around 25 mini videos produced for the event, for 25 artists. They are expected to edit and deliver videos on a 3 week deadline. It is recommended that they have a volunteer/assistant/intern. Must have a reel to be considered.

Contact kaila[at]rawartists.org for more info.
