My First Concert Ever

Was LXD x GLEE Live in Concert at the Gibson Amphitheatre last Friday night… and it was awesome.

Ok, I’m not a REAL Gleek, cuz’… I’d never watched a full episode of GLEE until the day of the concert. I decided I should probably get familiar with the show… so thank God for Hulu, I was able to watch 2 episodes before the show!

And yes, this was my FIRST real concert EVER. I mean, I’ve been to tons of live music events or intimate shows at small venues or even Kollaboration at the Orpheum, but this was my first large scale mainstream concert… and wow, I must go to more!!! I know, I know. I’m a late bloomer… and maybe just not that trendy…

*Drool*… LXD was sick. Can’t wait to see the webisodes…

It was also cool seeing Harry Shum, Jr. in action after meeting him at the LA Asian Pacific Film Fest! Omg, he can DANCE. I think I have a crush now… puahaha ;P

Something I’m looking forward to when I get back to LA is to be able to hike again! So lacking that over here in Asia… and because of the rain in Taipei… I feel very lazy. Haha >_<

So I went to my first live music show in HK and well, I don’t know how normal this is, but it took place at a band’s rehearsal space… and being HK, it was quite intimate! Very chill time with wine, great music, and awesome people!

Cold Winter Days

Well, it’s not THAT cold. I just happen to be in Hong Kong where I see posters for Hot Summer Days all over the place when ironically it’s quite the opposite here.

Despite the cold weather, I went to the AliveNotDead x Biennale event at the West Kowloon waterfront and former landfill. I am told that the HK gov’t has invested $3 BILLION (yes, BILLION USD) to renovate the area into an arts district. Anyway, so we scoped out the “Bring Your Own Biennale” exhibit which included lots of interesting pieces of architectural art made out of everyday things and nature that various artists and architects were invited to create.

Little Big Soldier

Upon arriving in HK the other night, the AliveNotDead guys hooked it up with a ticket to go to the red carpet premiere of the new Jackie Chan and Wang Lee Hom flick, Little Big Soldier. Well, I had no plans, so why not?

The crowd was a lil’ bit too crazy. I don’t know why there was an ambulance. Maybe cuz’ somebody had a heart attack upon hearing Wang Lee Hom was in the house (actually, I don’t know if he was there or not, but there were some WLH fanatics in the house for sure).

How was the movie? I thought it was OK. Jackie Chan is always entertaining and I thought it was cool that he wrote the story, but overall, I thought it dragged a bit, became very predictable at times, and didn’t have much of a payoff. The character development wasn’t totally there, cuz’ by the end, I wasn’t invested enough in the characters to care about their transformations. Despite that, I did laugh a fair amount here and there (although I happened to laugh at things that nobody else laughed at… I guess my sense of humor is totally different from the HK audience).

And yes, I’m alive! So much for blogging everyday this new year. Haha. Well, it’s been busy in Taiwan. I also decided to fast from the computer for 10 days… so I wouldn’t have been able to blog everyday anyway! And… my Internet connection isn’t the best… oh well.

So! Taiwan has been great! I’ve been meeting a lot of awesome peeps, eating a lot of delicious food, and most of all, seeing God do some amazing things over here. I’ll eventually blog about some highlights when I get a chance!

I’m currently in Nantou at my grandma’s ol’ house. It’s a trip to memory lane, cuz’ the last time I was here was when I was in 3rd grade. We’re about to have Chinese New Year’s Eve dinner. I was helping her prep some things earlier… and oh man, I have never in my life had to pluck hairs out of meat that I’d be eating… WHOA. Flashbacks to Manivore. Lol. Anyway, this is my first Chinese New Year’s in Taiwan. I’ll let you know how it goes!

Btw, I would totally be photo blogging or uploading vids… but unfortunately, the external HD I bought for this trip is USELESS. Boo. Here’s a pic I jacked from Howie (proof that I AM taking pics… mostly of food, yah yah~ lol… but I’ll have pics to show eventually!)

Downtown Art Walk

Scoped it out tonight with some friends… here are a few photos:

I was watching this guy paint when I realized I had seen him somewhere before… in a short film called PALETTE. It was then confirmed when I spotted the director, James Marcus Haney, who happened to be doing a live photo installation in the same space. Do you see the photos behind the crowd? Those are his.

After aimlessly walking the streets, we ran into Nic Cha Kim (one of the founders of Gallery Row)! We’re so glad we ran into him cuz’ we had no idea where any galleries were. He ended up guiding us to some good stuff.

1) I’m no LV expert, but I thought this was funny. 2) This one’s funny, too. It’s called “Toilet Seat Bass Guitar.”

Nic promised us this would be our fave gallery… and it was! It’s called “The Hive” and it really is like a hive inside!

1) Featured Artist display. 2) I’ve seen this art somewhere before! Kono? Where have I seen you? I really took this pic cuz’ of the turtle though… haha.

RoRo’s Chicken

Tonight, I had Lebanese food for the very first time! My dear friend, Jeannie Mai, who is quite the health-conscious foodie (you can find her reviews on Yelp), took me to RoRo’s Chicken and ordered me a buncha things to try…

A lil’ bit of Shawerma, Chicken Shawerma, Kafta kabab over rice with salad and Baba Ghanouj. Btw, I forgot to take a photo before eating… so this is midway through devouring the goodness.

“What’s this Baba Ghanouj stuff? Hmm… Ooo, yes, it is GOOOD.”

So what’d I think of RoRo’s Chicken? Delicious. I totally loved the Shawerma (great with their garlic butter!) and the Baba Ghanouj was yummy, too. Super filling.

Ahhh, what better way to wind down after an amazing dinner? Good company, sweets, and wine! P.S. – That bottle of wine was given to Jeannie as a gift from Mario Lopez. Just had to mention that. Haha.
